The well-anchored black Stanley cooker punctuates the end of the kitchen and its associated wetback cylinder a few cupboards along. It’s tricky tall pipe-work is discreetly hidden into matching cabinetry with inner pantry drawers below.
Butcher block tiles line the walls and add to the character of the kitchen.
Improving work flows, the sink was relocated away from the glare of overhead windows onto a new central island. This island with its black Ecogranit sink and induction hob are the anchorage point for both clean up and cooking. Providing ergonomic efficiency, the island’s location now connects the kitchen’s cooking surfaces and embraces an even wider vista to the sea.
Drawing on the owners’ seascape paintings and harbor outlook, the colours are quiet to allow display of blue and white porcelain in plate racks. Paneled tongue and groove doors, chiseled posts and open shelf detailing achieve the desired character while various heighted cabinets offer the balanced furniture aesthetic. Corian benchtops not only provide durability but offer softness with its gently flowing grain.
An elevated table, with its dedicated bench for cereals, toaster and the fridge nearby, is a favourite breakfast and lunch spot for watching birds in the birdbath and enjoying the ever-changing sea vista.
For this lovely mature couple, renovating their kitchen was all about making it their own. The benches were too low for their statuesque figures (!), the sun glare through the windows was intense to work at, people never knew where to stand to not be in the way and useful bench space was severely lacking.
