Inspired by the contrasts of New York loft apartments for its industrial bent, style-savvy interior designer client Kirsten Ford desired a balance of Hollywood luxe and glamour with the urban aesthetic. The result? An easy-care contemporary kitchen that accommodates a busy family lifestyle and facilitates connectivity around the ‘heart of the home’.
A large breakfast table in richly cross-grained quartzite, cantilevers confidently out above the stainless capped island. This showpiece rests firmly on a dark steel-look base further anchoring the island to the loft-like timber floor.
Descending from the entrance through internal stairs, the design draws people through to living spaces by presenting a clutter-free elegant kitchen. A combination of recessing dark hues and carefully positioned mirrors focuses the eye on ancient native Pohutakawa trees and estuary views beyond.

Along the south wall, antique darkened mirror with its distressed texture, was chosen to introduce an elegant yet industrial rawness. The ovens are raised for practical access and to envelop the hob zone, then wrapped in the same ‘steel-look’ to punctuate the end of the kitchen.
A dedicated drinks zone recessed into concrete-look walls displays LED-lit crystal decanters, continuing the integrated glamorous style.
Through a sliding door, a wrap-around scullery and laundry incorporates specific drawers to hide utilitarian equipment. The built in Home Office reflects the kitchen's moody palette while providing plenty of storage and space for working from home.
