Claiming to own “the worst corner cupboard in Auckland” and knowing their small kitchen could be better designed, these clients engaged Toni to work her magic in their compact down-sized home. They requested a “smarter”, more efficient kitchen for their modest two-story pole-house built from up-cycled eclectic materials. Toni completely transformed the way they now live. With the island on wheels, the efficient yet flexible layout enables both owners to enjoy creating in the kitchen together; something they couldn’t do before.
The island bench was designed and set on lockable chunky wheels providing various configuration options when entertaining.
To keep the island bench lightweight, an acrylic bench top with a honeycomb substrate was specified. While its custom slightly random shiplap skin echoes the home’s exterior cladding.
With a low Kauri ceiling forming the floor above, cabinetry and flooring is kept light to give the kitchen the aspired open and bright feel.
Pet bowls are especially accommodated by hanging the cabinetry from the wall slightly higher, allowing room for their cat’s head and in an area where the humans don’t kick the water bowl on passing.
Storage space was maximized wherever possible, with easy accessibility to stored items. Toni optimized storage space by adding secret toe kick drawers under the joinery.
Claiming to own the WORST most inaccessible cupboards in Auckland, these owners were desperate!
